Jon's childhood was neither harsh nor spectacular.  He was born into a middle class family, went to public school for eight years and spent another six in Catholic school.

His talent for music made itself known at a very young age.  Before Jon could even speak he could pound a rhythm out on a pot with a spoon. By the age of five he was a flutist in his church choir, and by ten he was playing the piano, drums, and violin.  At the age of thirteen he was given a guitar for his birthday and his future was sealed.

He was held back twice, once in first grade and another time in tenth.  He was rarely social and had few, if any  friends.  It wasn't that he was a social outcast, but he simply felt happiest when he was left alone.  Unfortunately he also had very little interest in his studies and only managed to graduate because his parents hired a tutor and watched him like a hawk through his last years of high school.

Jon went to college for two years and hated every minute of it.  His classes felt empty and meaningless and one morning he up and packed his bags and moved downtown.  He worked as a night janitor in an office building, happy that usually he was left on his own most of the time and didn't have to socialize much -- but Jon still felt an aching need to play.

In the evenings before he had to walk to work he started spending time at the park, sitting by the fountain and playing for passersby.  Amazingly, some of them even paid him.  Jon began to spend more time at the park and less time at work... eventually he quit altogether.

Had he been left to  his own devices, Jon probably would have soon found himself destitute and homeless or forced to return to his parents, but instead he was discovered by Lael and encouraged to audition for a new band she was putting together.

Jon was rather suprised when he actually made the cut, and isn't sure how to handle being part of a group of musicians.  But he still loves the music and is willing to give it a try.  So far he's done an amazing job putting Rei's wild lyrical poems to music.

He's a quiet man and usually holds his head down, looking at the details at his feet instead of holding his head up in the clouds like most other musicians.  He's amazingly patient and thick skinned, but doesn't speak up as often as he should because he's embarrassed of his stuttering.
