Imagine waking up to find yourself in the company of a very grumpy and antisocial man.  Imagine said man giving you his personality because he thought he'd get along with that type of person the best... now imagine yourself screaming with said man for hours and hours and hours and hours -- and finally... imagine said person turning you off and waking to find yourself in a little room full of noisy creatures that like to electrocute uppity people like yourself.  Oh yes... and your seating partner is a very cheerful chatty fellow that annoys you even more than the guy that turned you off earlier...   and you do nothing for the next year except sit and listen to mister chatty guy who won't shut up or go away no matter how much you scream at him.

Not a good way to start a life, is it?  That's how Kes got her start, no wonder she was such a happy little thing.

Kestrel screamed lots.  For most droids in the Star Wars  Universe this would mean trouble... but Kestrel had one thing lots of droids lacked... Kes was SMART.  After an incident with a sandcrawler driving through town she was given to a young Swoop mechanic named tobias Blackboot -- thus began her beautiful friendship.

Her new master turned out to be a force sensitive, and his adventures soon took them off Tattoine and to the farthest reaches of space.  She managed to swindle an insane Moff out of a nice ship and some supplies, came up with several really cool plans that helped her group out, and defeated a dark Jedi lord... twice!  The second time she died while saving her friends, but she still saved her friends nonetheless and would have done it all over again I believe.  That's my girl.
